McCain is acknowledging that he has lost the election in Michigan, a key battleground state. Nothing he could say or do will fool the people there, and he’s giving up the game. We’ve all heard the lies before, and they just don’t work any more. Enquiring minds want to know which state he’ll quit next.

John McCain is ending his attempt to win Michigan, a serious blow to the Republican’s presidential hopes. “The operations will be scaled back but we’ll still be in place in Michigan,” Mike DuHaime, political director the McCain-Palin national campaign confirmed in a conference call with national reporters late Thursday. He said staff assigned to Michigan will be shifted to Maine, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania which show greater promise for McCain.

DuHaime said the McCain camp has no plans to do any further TV advertising in Michigan, but added: “We are monitoring the state and if it swings back in our favor we will be reengaged.” Chuck Yob, a co-chair of Michigan’s campaign, disagreed with the decision to toss in the Michigan towel. “I don’t think it’s a very good decision. I think they’re wrong,” said Yob, a longtime Republican activist in West Michigan.
